THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN ECONOMIC RECOVERY: SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Abstract

Objective. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the role of women in post-war economic recovery and societal transformation. It aims to explore the key socio-economic challenges women face and to identify new opportunities for their integration into economic life in the context of war and the post-conflict period. Methods. The research is based on a comparative analysis of statistical data, policy documents, and recent scholarly studies. The authors utilize both qualitative and quantitative approaches to examine the dynamics of women’s participation in the economy, with a focus on labor market shifts, entrepreneurship, and gender-sensitive policy initiatives. Results. The study highlights the growing involvement of women in economic processes during and after the war, driven by the need to adapt to disrupted labor markets and assume responsibilities traditionally assigned to men. Women encounter substantial barriers, including labor market discrimination, unequal pay, limited access to leadership positions, and the double burden of professional and domestic obligations. However, the post-war environment also opens up new avenues, particularly in digital sectors, creative industries, and small business development. State support programs, although limited, can serve as a crucial mechanism for enhancing women’s economic participation. Scientific novelty. The article presents an integrated approach to understanding how gender roles are being redefined in times of crisis. It contributes to the field by synthesizing data on gender inequality with contemporary examples of female entrepreneurship and leadership. The study demonstrates how shifting socio-economic conditions can accelerate progress toward gender equality and economic inclusiveness. Practical significance. The findings underline the importance of implementing state-level gender equality policies, creating flexible working conditions, expanding childcare infrastructure, and supporting female-led enterprises through grants and mentoring programs. The article may be useful for policymakers, development agencies, and civil society organizations working on post-conflict economic recovery and gender empowerment.
