FLEXIBLE ENTERPRISE ADAPTATION STRATEGY: COMBINING PROACTIVE AND REACTIVE APPROACHES TO CLIMATE RISK MANAGEMENT
Abstract
The article investigates the issue of forming a flexible adaptive strategy of an enterprise in the context of an escalating climate crisis and increasing uncertainty of the external environment. It is substantiated that contemporary climate threats are becoming systemic and multifaceted, exerting a significant impact on the strategic resilience, financial stability, and long-term competitiveness of enterprises, which necessitates a reconsideration of traditional approaches to strategic management. It is emphasized that the development of flexible adaptive strategies serves as a critically important instrument for ensuring business resilience under conditions of global climate turbulence and a rapidly changing economic environment, as it enables enterprises to combine preventive managerial actions with prompt responses to unforeseen events, as well as to integrate climate risks into the strategic planning framework. Within the scope of the study, a conceptual rationale is proposed for integrating proactive and reactive climate risk management mechanisms as the methodological foundation for building a flexible adaptive strategy of an enterprise. The expediency of applying a modular strategy structure, digital monitoring tools, and scenario forecasting is substantiated, as these instruments collectively ensure the timely adjustment of individual strategic components without compromising the integrity of the management system and the long-term strategic objectives of the enterprise. Particular attention is given to the role of scenario forecasting as a means of enhancing strategic flexibility, facilitating the integration of innovative solutions, optimizing resource utilization, and minimizing financial and operational risks associated with the materialization of climate threats. It is determined that the implementation of a flexible adaptive strategy contributes not only to strengthening enterprise competitiveness, but also to enhancing corporate reputation, increasing stakeholder trust, and effectively realizing the principles of socio-environmental responsibility in the context of growing ESG requirements and climate regulation.
