Abstract

The component of the circular bio-economy is increasingly attracting the attention of state policy on the agricultural sector in EU countries. This research direction is also relevant for Ukraine in the context of European integration and its future “green reconstruction.” The article examines functional, innovative business models of the circular bio-economy of agro-industrial complex enterprises, the main elements of business modeling, its drivers, and barriers by the principles of circularity and sustainability. Objective. The main goal of the scientific work is to identify and justify the main characteristics of innovative business modeling of agro-industrial complex enterprises in the process of bio-economic transformation. Methods. The study is based on reviewing and analyzing existing secondary information on 33 cases of implementing the principles of circularity and sustainability in the bioeconomic activities of EU agricultural sector enterprises using a game approach. Results. The study showed that the strategies of the investigated organizations are based on the principles of circular economy activities: the most relevant are recycling, ecological procurement, and industrial and regional ecology. Geographical location and relative proximity of supply chain participants have been identified as the most critical factors influencing the successful implementation of bioeconomy business models, along with greening consumer trends and local government support. A universal approach to business modeling agro-industrial complex enterprises' bio-economic activity was formed based on the research results. Scientific novelty. The application of the game concept and the business modeling canvas, with the adaptation of its main blocks for researching needs (Consumer Segments, Value Proposition, Channels, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partners, and Cost Structure) made it possible to justify peculiarities of its components in the context of bioeconomic transformation and to unify the main elements of innovative business models in bioeconomic systems, their dynamic interrelationships and support from the public administration. Practical significance. The obtained research results allow for considering the peculiarities of sustainable bioeconomic business model design in improving management approaches to developing strategies and production processes of agribusiness enterprises in the context of bioeconomic transformation.
