THE EFFECT OF INFLATION AND EXPORTS ON ECONOMIC GROWTH: AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS
Abstract
The article examines the impact of inflation and exports on the economic growth of Ukraine based on the analysis of the relationship between the gross domestic product, the inflation index and export volumes. The topicality of the topic is due to the need to determine the key factors of ensuring the economic stability of Ukraine in the face of significant internal and external challenges, in particular, structural changes in the economy, price fluctuations, the transformation of foreign trade and the need to restore the country's economic potential. The purpose of the study is to assess the impact of inflationary processes and export activity on the dynamics of Ukraine's GDP using econometric methods of analysis. The work uses the methods of statistical analysis, correlation and regression analysis. A multivariate linear regression model was built, in which GDP is defined as the dependent variable (outcome indicator), and the inflation index and exports are the influencing factors. Based on the results of the study, it was established that there is a close relationship between the studied indicators. The coefficient of determination of the model is 0,842, which indicates that 84,2% of the GDP variation is explained by changes in inflation and exports. It has been established that exports have a positive and statistically significant effect on the economic growth of Ukraine, stimulating production, foreign exchange earnings and economic activity. Inflation, on the contrary, negatively affects the development of the economy due to a decrease in purchasing power, an increase in the costs of enterprises and a deterioration of the investment environment. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of using the obtained results to assess the macroeconomic trends of Ukraine and justify the directions of economic policy. It is advisable to focus further research on the analysis of the export structure, in particular the impact of its individual components on economic growth, as well as on the assessment of the short-term and long-term impact of inflation using econometric methods.
