CONCEPTUAL FOUNDATIONS FOR THE FORMATION OF THE FOREIGN ECONOMIC POTENTIAL OF UKRAINE’S INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX BASED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
The article examines the conceptual foundations for the formation of the foreign economic potential of Ukraine’s industrial complex under the conditions of contemporary transformational processes and the importance of implementing the principles of sustainable development. The main components of the foreign economic potential of Ukraine’s industrial complex are identified, including production and technological, innovative, financial and investment, human resources, marketing, informational, environmental, social, organizational and managerial, geopolitical, institutional and legal, logistics, and market-related components. The role of sustainable development principles in shaping the foreign economic potential of the industrial complex is substantiated, and the necessity of integrating economic, environmental, and social aspects into managerial decision-making processes is demonstrated. The authors define the foreign economic potential of Ukraine’s industrial complex as a multi-component system, an integrated set of internal environment components (production and technological, innovative, financial and investment, human resources, marketing, informational, environmental, and social), as well as the organizational and managerial capabilities of industrial complex enterprises, formed on the principles of sustainable development and taking into account the influence of external environmental factors (geopolitical, institutional and legal, logistics, and market-related), which collectively ensure the capacity for effective foreign economic activity, enhanced international competitiveness, and the achievement of sustainable development goals at both the national and global levels. The proposed interpretation of the foreign economic potential of the industrial complex combines traditional economic characteristics of foreign economic potential aimed at achieving economic efficiency with social and environmental requirements directed toward ensuring environmental safety and social responsibility. The main constraining factors (problems and challenges) affecting the development of foreign economic potential have been identified, including technological backwardness of production, insufficient innovation activity, investment constraints, logistical difficulties, labor shortages, increasing environmental requirements, and military-political risks. It is concluded that there is a need for modernization of the industrial complex, development of innovative activities, and implementation of sustainable development principles as the basis for enhancing the competitiveness of Ukrainian industry in international markets.
